Winter is something that fears the many in Westeros, but in India what puts fear in our minds are the hot summers. The solution then is an Air Conditioner.

To rid you of sweat and uneasiness of the hot summers we set about finding the best ac in India.

We started by reading on Consumer Voice, a group of academicians and professionals who have been spreading awareness about consumer rights since 1983. We then shortlisted some of the best selling products on Amazon and Flipkart followed by some best picks of other websites.

But we did not stop at that and to really understand the buyer's trends and requirements we went down to three offline home appliances dealers- Reliance Digital, Adishwar and Pai Electronics. Here we spoke to the many sales personnel about people's buying habits, their budgets, their most requested features and the brands they trust the most.

Using this data we fine-tuned our selection process and have finally come up with the following best picks.

Why Trust Us?

We understand how bad heat can get so we made sure we find the best air conditioner for your needs.

When we set to find the best picks we saw most websites suggested ACs that were either unavailable or had long been outdated. So we started by searching for the best air conditioners on Amazon and Flipkart. This was a useful step as we did not rely on what websites said but rather picked based on what the Indian public already tested and liked.

This gave us insights into the delivery, installation woes, service and maintenance and reliability.

We relied on data from e-commerce websites as well. Consumer Voice’s buying guide came in very handy allowing us to assess and pick the best products.

Lastly to look at what people wish for in an Air Conditioner we sought the help of three home appliances dealers- Pai Electronics, Adishwar and Reliance Digital. This also helped us understand air conditioner specifications and features that are actually important to people.

How we selected?

We started by finding what most other websites suggest for Air Conditioners. We saw most of them suggesting around 10 different products which can actually confuse a potential buyer. Furthermore, we saw most suggestions online were of products that were for long have been out of stock and permanently unavailable.

We then focused our research drawing insight from E-commerce websites. Here we found a lot of highly reviewed and highly rated products. We then set about picking the ones which had the best ratings, highest BEE ratings, Copper condensers, other additional features and great price. Inputs from the home appliances dealers were also applied before we could find the best picks.

How to choose the best air conditioner- inputs from the dealers

As we said before we met three popular home appliances dealers; Reliance Digital, Adishwar and Pai Electronics to understand the air conditioner market and there we got some rather useful tips from the dealers about what to look for before you make that important purchase.

While we have listed some important features like BEE rating, inverter type and noise as some criteria before purchasing a new air conditioner. This time around we have something minute but important advice that the dealer dished out. They said that while you look for the important specifications there are some minor things that you must look for as listed below:

  • Always pick copper condensers instead of aluminium one, almost all our picks have a copper condenser. Now why this is important is while copper is more expensive than aluminium, it last longer, has better heat exchange properties and are easier to repair and maintain

  • Dehumidifier function is another feature to consider if you live in a humidity prone area, this feature lets you remove the excess moisture in the air and help improve cooling.

  • 4-way auto swing is another such feature that is important. Swing is basically the directions in which the cool air is thrown out. Most machines do an upward-downward swing, but newer ones have a sideways swing feature as well. The importance of this is that it helps to throw a much higher volume of air and cover more distance much faster thus enabling better cooling of the room.

This is just one part in the series of “how to choose the best product” feature. Read more such inputs in the 2-ton air conditioners and 1-ton air conditioners articles where we talk about air conditioner sizes, BEE ratings and more.

  • ISEER value of 4.81

While the design of the LG Air Conditioner is nothing extraordinary, as an Air Conditioner, it is quite cool. It comes with the latest in the market, dual inverter technology that lets the compressor run at different speeds and power which saves power.

Regular Split AC’s have the compressor in either max power or completely off which is a lot less efficient. The Inverter technology earns the LG a high ISEER rating of 4.81 (one of the highest we have seen) and a 5-star BEE rating (2018).

The copper condenser helps the AC cool much faster than regular aluminium condenser ACs. The four-way swing feature ensures the cold air is delivered in all directions uniformly. The 1-ton size makes the AC sufficient for rooms of sizes around 120 -140 sq. feet

Remote Control: LGs Well-constructed remote

The LG AC is also designed to run without a stabilizer which is very convenient. LG has also fitted its useful Himalaya Cool technology for fast cooling along with its smart diagnosis system for hassle-free problem detection.

Coming to environment friendliness the AC uses R-410A refrigerant which has zero potential to damage the ozone layer. Coming to noise also, the air conditioner has a low noise level of 21Db which should not affect light sleepers.

It also has a dehumidification feature but the remote lacks glow in the dark buttons.

The AC comes with a 1-year warranty on the product and 10-year warranty on the compressor. LG also provides doorstep service for the air conditioners and the initial installation is charged around Rs.1500-1600.

The LG AC is based on inverter technology and will work with most rooms within the 140 sq. feet area. It is also designed to be more efficient despite cooling much faster hence it can work well even in hot areas. Its Himalaya cool feature also lets you instantly bring down the temperature of the room at a touch of a button.

Samsung’s offering matches the LG when it comes to capacity, efficiency and features so it is all down to your brand preference and budget when picking between the two.

The Midea AC is very similar to the other two in terms of specifications and it's dehumidifier feature lets you can use them in humid places like Mumbai and Chennai.
