After bringing you the first hands-on video of the iPhone (2018) mockups, the first leaked images of the Oppo AX5, the first hands-on look of LG Q9 and exclusive leaks of the Redmi Note 6 Pro. We are happy to bring to you exclusive first look at images of the Huawei Y9 (2019).
Huawei Y9 2019 First Look
Our exclusive leak shows the 2019 version of the Huawei Y9 which apart from a spec bump also brings a more modern design to the Y9. The front images show the most obvious change, the move to an even taller display (19.5:9) with the notch and the beautifully rounded corners. The notch, however, isn’t as wide as most phones (like iPhone X) but does resemble to notch on the Pixel 3 XL especially due to its height. Sadly it departs from the teardrop notch found on the Honor 8x. But if you look at the bezels, they are uniform and tiny on the sides but the top and the chin still have substantial bezels, lesser than the Y9 (2018) but still significant.
What is really cool however is the back of the phone which comes with the cool shades of black, teal and gradient blue. The colors really add character to the phones and really add to the family look shared by Huawei and Honor. Also despite the lack of any Leica branded cameras, Huawei still maintains the landscape lettering on the back panels for the company banding and AI camera branding. Also at the back is the fingerprint sensor, which is placed far away from the vertically stacked camera sensor- prevents smudging of the camera lens.
Coming to the cameras, there are four of them, as is the trend now with most Huawei phones. There are two in the front and two at the back and the Al camera helping you get background blur effects and of course Huawei’s AI effects.
Huawei Y9 2019: Specs & Features
The Huawei Y9 (2019) is rumoured to come with the following feature sets as leaked by TENAA & 3C.
6.5-inch screen with a 2340 x 1080 resolution
2.2GHz Kirin 710 processor
4GB RAM and 6GB RAM variants with 64GB and 128GB
20MPx (main) + 2MPx (depth) rear camera
16 MPx (main) + 2MPx (depth) front camera
3900mAh battery with 5V-2A charging
The Honor Y9 (2019) brings some significant updates to the older Y9 (2018) especially in terms of performance in the form of a more modern Kirin 710 processor which is miles ahead of the older Kirin 659 which made its way onto most of Huawei and Honor mid-range devices. To help with the performance, RAM has also seen some upgrades with a newer 6GB version along with the 4GB version. Storage space is said to come in the form of 64GB or 128GB along with support form microSD cards.
The display now is said to be a 6.5-inch screen over the previous versions 5.93 inch, while the dimensions have increased a wee bit, the jump in screen real estate will definitely help with the user experience especially gaming and video due to the improved soc. The bump in screen size also brings more pixels with the resolution now being 2340 x 1080 pixels. Running the shows are said to be Huawei’s custom skin, EMUI 8.1 which is based on Android 8.1.
Coming to photography, while the front pair of sensors seems to be the same as before in the form of a 16Mpx main sensor and 2MPx depth sensor, the rear snapper seems to have got an upgrade. The 20Mpx rear sensor and 2Mpx depth sensor will support portrait mode effects and of course, will come with Huawei AI camera features for better detection of scenes and image correction/ enhancement.Despite the bump in performance, the battery is said to be similar around the 3900-4000mAh mark with support for 5V-2A charging. Also while there is no information of the type of USB connector, given the time when it’ll be launched a USB-C connector would swell.
Finally which we see a teal, black and gradient blue colors in our leaks, pink and purple colors are also expected for the Huawei Y9 (2019).
Huawei Y9 (2019): Launch and Pricing
While the Huawei Y9 2018 was launched in March of 2018, and it being only 7 months since that phone, the launch of the next version seems odd. But with even OnePlus moving onto launching two phones a year within a span of 6 months, the launch of the Y9 (2019) before the end of the year does seem possible. Pricing of the previous version was around 200 euros and the next version should be close to it.
